USU Program Receives Donations from Marriner S. Eccles Foundation
The Utah Assistive Technology Program at the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University recently received two donations from the Marriner S. Eccles Foundation.
The first donation of $35,000 will provide Americans with Disabilities Act training to elected and appointed municipal officials and employees. The ADA ensures equal access to employment, education and services for all citizens. The grant will help to ensure that public officials and employees understand and implement the standards. The training will become more important as Utah citizens age and face obstacles with full participation in government.
An additional $8,000 donation will support university student design and development of assistive technology for people with disabilities. Students from the College of Engineering and the College of Education and Human Services will collaborate to meet the specific technology needs of people in Cache Valley.
