USU President to Share Strategic Reinvestment Plan Updates at Dec. 8 Town Hall

Utah State University President Brad L. Mortensen has invited faculty and staff to a town hall meeting Dec. 8.

At the meeting, Mortensen will share updates on Utah State University’s strategic reinvestment plan and discuss recent employee and student surveys.

With this year’s House Bill 265, the Utah Legislature made some of its funding to state universities and colleges contingent upon approval of a strategic reinvestment plan.

“As you know, USU’s plan has not yet received approval,” Mortensen wrote in an email to employees Monday. “My top priority is to receive approval and ensure that the funds withheld from our budget are restored.”

At next week’s town hall, Mortensen will describe a revised strategic reinvestment plan.

Mortensen outlined the next steps for the new plan: a review by the Utah Board of Higher Education, then presenting it to the legislature’s Executive Appropriations Committee at its Dec. 9 meeting. Mortensen hopes the plan is approved before the 2026 legislative session begins in January.

Mortensen will also present highlights from a recent university-wide survey.

If you have not yet responded, I encourage you to take a few minutes to share your thoughts on how things are going at USU,” Mortensen wrote. “Your feedback helps guide our next steps.”
