USU Office of Research to Host 'Research to Market Pipeline' Summit

By Kirsten Reither |

Utah State University’s Office of Research will be hosting the Research to Market Pipeline Summit, a part of its Research Summit Series, on Oct. 21.

The Research Summit Series provides opportunities for researchers to learn about pressing issues such as AI, health and education disparities, and securing research funding. It also provides researchers the chance to form interdisciplinary research teams and connect with industry representatives.

Research to Market Pipeline is the most ambitious Research Summit thus far and will spotlight breakthrough technologies from Utah’s top small businesses and foster connections among business leaders, investors, researchers and policymakers.

Utah State Sen. F. Ann Millner will present the keynote speech of the event. Sen. Millner currently serves as chair of the Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee, Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, School Security Task Force and Senate Ethics Committee. Prior to her time in the state legislature, she served as president of Weber State University from 2002 to 2012. She has championed policy aimed at strengthening workforce preparation, improving public and higher education, bolstering aerospace defense industries and expanding access to affordable health care.

The summit will also include a panel discussion featuring leaders from the Utah State University Tech Transfer Office, the Nucleus Fund (formerly the Utah Innovation Fund), the Nucleus Grow (formerly the Utah Innovation Center), and the Logan Small Business Development Center, as well as a presentation on venture capital funding.

Utah-based small businesses will have the opportunity showcase their innovations and next-step needs to a panel of experts, competing for $1,000 first place and $500 second place prizes.

The event will take place from 3-5 p.m. in the Maverik Stadium Champions Club. It is not open to USU students.
