USU Museum of Anthropology Presents Polynesian Culture Day

Utah State University’s Museum of Anthropology invites guests at its next “Saturdays at the Museum” activity to learn about the Polynesian islands. Activities are presented Saturday, Sept. 25, at the museum.

 

Throughout the day, and in conjunction with USU’s Polynesian Student Union, the museum will have displays highlighting various Polynesian islands, including New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga and Hawaii. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. members of the Polynesian Student Union will be on hand to talk with visitors about each featured island and provide examples of island dances, as well as information about tribal tattoos and body decorations. Patrons will be able to sample traditional food provided by Pounders, a local Polynesian restaurant and listen to live music from the local Polynesian band Profetik. Food at the museum is only available from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

 

“We are excited to offer our community a chance to learn more about the unique traditions of Polynesia through the music, dancing and food of the islands,” said Aurora Durfee, Saturdays Program coordinator. “This event will be a great way to introduce your family to Polynesian culture and history.”

 

“Saturdays at the Museum” hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

In addition to its Saturday program hours, the Museum of Anthropology is open to USU students and members of the public six days a week, with regular hours Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For Saturday activities, free parking is available in the adjacent lot, south of the building.

 

The USU Museum of Anthropology is on the USU campus in the south turret of the historic Old Main building, Room 252.
