USU's Música Viva to Host Composer Philip Rothman

Composer Philip Rothman will be on hand when Música Viva, Utah State University’s contemporary music ensemble, appears in concert. The concert is Monday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the USU Performance Hall.

Tickets are available at the Performance Hall box office prior to the concert. Admission is $5 and USU students with ID are admitted free.

 

“A special feature of this event is that Mr. Rothman will be present and will talk with the audience about his music and his experience as a composer,” said music department faculty member and Música Viva director Sergio Bernal. “Much of the live concert music we hear today is from the past, by composers who have been long dead. It is very exciting for us to work with the composer as we prepare to present his music. We cannot do the same with Mozart and Beethoven, but luckily, we can with Philip Rothman.”

 

Four contrasting works by Rothman make up the evening’s program and point to the composer’s versatility, Bernal said.
