USU Men's Cross Country Ranked 13th in Mountain Regional Rankings

Utah State's [University] men are currently ranked 13th in the second week of Mountain Region cross country rankings that were announced Monday [September 22, 2014] by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Both men's and women's teams were ranked 11th in pre-season regional rankings released earlier this year.

Utah State is entering its second season of competition in the Mountain West Conference. Along with Utah State, the other men's teams representing the MW in the regional rankings are New Mexico (4th), Colorado State (5th), Air Force (6th) and Wyoming (8th).

Utah State has competed in two meets so far to open the 2014 season. First, they competed on Aug. 30 at its own Aggie Invitational where they finished second out of four teams. Second time out, the Aggies participated in the Montana State Invitational finishing third out of four teams, including Wyoming and Montana State who are also among the top-15 teams in the regional rankings.

In their first season in the Mountain West, Utah State finished sixth. Returning senior Eric Shellhorn finished sixth at last year's conference championship, earning first-team all-Mountain West honors. In addition, sophomore Colby Wilson was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year along with Wyoming's Michael Kesy.

Utah State cross country continues the season at the Minnesota-hosted Roy Griak Invitational in Falcon Heights, Minn., Saturday, Sept. 27.
