USU Latino Student Union Celebrates with "Fiesta Americas" Friday, March 21
The Utah State University Latino Student Union (LSU), with the support of the Access and Diversity Center, will celebrate its annual event, “Fiesta Americas,” Friday, March 21, 7 p.m., at the Taggart Student Center Stevenson Ballroom on the Logan campus.
“Fiesta Americas will be an evening to remember and I am excited that we have an opportunity to share Latino food, music, song, dance and poetry,” said Sandra Martinez, LSU president. “This will be an opportunity to experience the wide-range of cultures and traditions of countries throughout Central and South America.”
As in years past, LSU will use the event as a chance to give back to the community as it will be awarding a scholarship to a graduating high school senior. All funds for the scholarship were raised by club members.
“We recognize that we (members of LSU) did not get to where we are on our own,” said Jesus (“Chewy”) Garcia, LSU secretary. “We want to help other students and their families achieve their goals and dreams.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the show beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the USU Access and Diversity Center (TSC 315) and through LSU Executive Council members. Tickets are $10 with student ID, and $12 for the general public. Limited tickets will be available at the door.
“We are excited to put on an event where members of campus and the community can learn about the different cultures that surround them,” said Brooke Lambert, Latino Student Union advisor and Access and Diversity Center program coordinator.
