USU's Intermountain Herbarium Offers Public Workshops
Utah State University’s Intermountain Herbarium hosts two workshops, open to the public, offering basic information about fungi and plants.
An Introduction to Mushroom Identification workshop May 15-16, presents concepts, literature and terminology of mushrooms found in Utah. The two-day session begins Friday, May 15, at 6 p.m. at the Intermountain Herbarium on campus and concludes at 9 p.m. The Saturday, May 16, session begins at 9 a.m. and includes travel to sites in Logan Canyon, where participants will visit varied habitats and view a number of mushroom species. The May 16 session concludes at about 3 p.m.
Cost for the May 15-16 workshop is $40 per person. Further information about the workshop and suggested supplies is available on the Intermountain Herbarium Web site.
The workshop is jointly sponsored by the Intermountain Herbarium, Bridgerland Mushroom Society, Mushroom Society of Utah and the Cache Chapter of the Utah Native Plant Society.
June 8-12, the herbarium hosts an Introduction to Plant Identification workshop that guides participants in identifying 15-20 of northern Utah’s most common plant families. The gathering will be held five consecutive mornings from 10 a.m.-noon in the Geology building, Room 301, on the USU campus. Cost to attend the five-day workshop is $45.

The herbarium is located in the basement of the university’s Junction student dining facility. The Junction is northeast of the Edith Bowen Laboratory School at about 1000 E. 700 North, Logan.
