Utah State University hosts Dan Chambliss, Harvard University Press’ award-winning co-author of How College Works Tuesday, Feb. 23, for a series of private and public learning sessions.
An Empowering Teaching Excellence seminar featuring Chambliss is open to all faculty and is held in the Merrill-Cazier Library that day from 3:30-5 p.m. During his seminar, Chambliss will present his research and conduct a formal talk followed by Q&A on applying the How College Works research to teaching at Utah State University.
“This is a great opportunity to gain one-on-one insights from a leading voice on how colleges can improve the quality of higher education without incurring additional costs,” said Robert Wagner, executive vice provost overseeing USU’s Academic and Instructional Services. “Many different groups on campus will get the chance to meet with Dr. Chambliss and benefit from his insights.”
According to Wagner, Chambliss will meet with USU advisors, Student Services, academic deans and the Provost’s office, New Faculty Forum, as well the Empowering Teaching Excellence seminar during his visit.
Chambliss is currently the Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Hamilton College. Harvard University Press named How College Works as winner of the Virginia and Warren Stone Prize as the Press’s 2014 book of the year on Education and Society. How College Works was also named to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Top Ten Books on Teaching” for 2014, and was listed in the Washington Post’s “Summer Reading List for College Counselors.”
