USU Hosts 21st Annual Small Satellite Conference

Utah State University’s Space Dynamics Laboratory is gearing up for the 21st annual Small Satellite Conference Aug. 13–16 at the Eccles Conference Center on the USU campus.

The conference draws attendees representing academia, industry and government agencies, with more than 850 registrants from 20 countries. With dramatic growth over its 21-year history, the Small Satellite conference has become the largest annual conference held at USU and in Cache Valley.

 

The keynote address is the opening day of the conference, Monday, Aug. 13, at noon. The keynote speaker is Gary E. Payton, deputy undersecretary of the U.S. Air Force for space programs.

 

With a strong emphasis on student involvement, the conference holds a student scholarship competition which awards $30,000 in scholarships, with a $10,000 scholarship awarded to first place. Two Utah State University engineering students will be among the six competing for scholarships.

 

The conference, co-sponsored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, has been a huge success in Logan. It has become internationally recognized as the premier conference on small satellites. The annual gathering provides a forum for the best minds in the small satellite community to review recent successes, explore new directions and introduce emerging technologies in small spacecraft development, sid SDL conference administrators. In addition to creating an excellent environment for networking and talking with experts in military, science and academic fields, the conference offers a program of international relevance, focusing on the key challenges and opportunities facing the small satellite community today.

 

More than 60 government agencies and top aerospace corporations exhibit at the conference, including ATK, Ball Aerospace, L-3 Communications, Lockheed Martin and NASA. International exhibitors will include organizations from Canada, England, Scotland, Japan, the Netherlands and Sweden.
