USU Guitar Students Give Fall Concert in Caine Performance Hall

Utah State University’s Music Department presents the annual fall guitar ensemble concert Monday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Caine Performance Hall on USU’s Logan campus.

“This program will feature both acoustic guitar and electric guitar ensembles,” said Corey Christiansen, professor of guitar in the Caine College of the Arts. “The evening will have music from Jim Croce and acoustic guitar legend Leo Kotke, as well as classical pieces by J.S. Bach.”

The performance marks the 37th year that guitar ensembles have given a performance at USU. Music majors participate in ensemble groups in order to sharpen their skills and prepare for the professional world, Christiansen said.

“Three of the electric guitar ensembles will be playing jazz-related works which include jazz standards, original works and arrangements by ensemble students and works by past guitar alumni,” Christiansen said. “The music ranges from jazz to rock and fusion music.”

The large group known as Guitarmageddon will also perform. The group features more than 20 acoustic guitars on stage at one time. The group is comprised of music and non-music majors.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 seniors and youth, $5 USU faculty and staff and free for USU students with ID.
