USU's Guitar Ensembles Pick Fall for a Concert

Utah State University’s guitar ensembles have picked Nov. 19 to present the fall concert. A total of four ensembles will perform.

Concert time is 7:30 p.m. for the Monday concert in USU’s Performance Hall (approximately 1090 E. 675 North, Logan) on the USU campus. Tickets are $5 at the door and USU students are admitted free with current ID.

 

Two acoustic guitar and two electric guitar ensembles will perform a wide variety of music, ranging from classical to rock, said guitar program head Mike Christiansen. The ensembles are comprised primarily of guitar majors in the department of music, and range in size from six to 10 guitars. The electric ensembles will perform music for six guitars, bass and drums.

 

“With the combinations of sounds and variety of music, there is sure to be something for everyone in the audience,” Christiansen said.

 

Music for the guitar ensembles was originally written for guitar ensemble or arranged and adapted to fit the unique capabilities of each ensemble. Repertoire includes classical pieces (“Allegro” from “Op. 6” by Fernando Sor and “Pacific Coast Highway” by Andrew York), jazz compositions (“Killer Joe” by Benny Golson and “I’ll Take Romance” by Oscar Hammerstein II and Ben Oakland), and some rock and funk styles (“Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin and “Lucky Tooth” by Jesse Shaeffer).

 

Christiansen noted that support for the USU guitar ensembles has traditionally been high, and he encourages an early arrival for concert goers.
