USU Cuts Back On Irrigation Water Use

Utah State University is lowering its water use as a result of restrictions from the local canal company. Due to low snow pack, the irrigation canal that brings the majority of irrigation water to USU is implementing restrictions in the amount of water delivered to its shareholders. USU Facilities is adjusting the rate at which water is used to match the amount allowed by the canal company as a result of these restrictions. 

Dry spots on USU lawns will be visible and remain until temperatures begin to cool. Watering priorities will be adjusted to provide trees, shrubs and perennials adequate water first, then flowers and finally lawns. Large lawns used for multiple activities such as the Quad and HPER field will receive priority over small lawns around buildings.

 

Watering will be done primarily in the early evening and late morning. Because of USU’s unique location, the canyon winds make early morning watering less efficient than late morning watering.
