USU, Civitas Learning Partner to Help Students Achieve Success

Utah State University is partnering with Civitas Learning to analyze historical and present data to help students be more successful. USU’s Academic Instructional Services (AIS) led a campus-wide team of key stakeholders to bring the program to the university.

“One of the biggest benefits Civitas brings to the table is its ability to analyze mountains of data quickly,” said Noelle E. Cockett, USU’s executive vice president and provost.

According to Cockett, learning analytics from the Civitas partnership will impact three significant areas: student success and retention, documenting teaching and learning, and institutional decision making.

Civitas Learning is an analytics platform that identifies multiple indicators driving student success. USU has provided Civitas with years of historical data and will continue to provide current data in the ongoing partnership. The Civitas platform is able to process the data and find valuable student success insights often missed because of their complexity.

“Understanding the highly detailed trends and patterns of an individual’s college career will allow USU to make informed decisions on how to best help each student,” said Robert Wagner, executive vice provost and dean of AIS.

Using Civitas, Wagner said he expects the university’s ability to retain students to increase and ensure a better student college experience.

Implementation of the Civitas Learning platform will begin immediately with system-wide implementation expected to be in place in 2017.
