USU Choral Groups Joined By Leaping Lulu in Concert

Cory Evans, head of the choral music program at Utah State University, is organizing a concert that combines the talents of two student ensembles and a guest artist.

“Autumn Landscapes” features the USU Chamber Singers and Chorale, both directed by Evans, and special guest Leaping Lulu Friday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at USU’s Performance Hall (approximately 1090 E. 675 North, Logan). The concert is presented by the Department of Music and the Caine School of the Arts at USU. Admission is $8 and free for USU students with valid ID.

In addition to the Logan event, Autumn Landscapes will be presented in Salt Lake City Saturday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Assembly Hall on Temple Square. The Salt Lake Concert is free and no ticket is required. All ages are welcome.

 

The centerpiece of both concerts is the performance of Autumn Landscapes, a collection of Estonian poems about autumn, set to music by Estonian composer Veljo Tormis. This work will be performed by the USU Chamber Singers.

 

USU’s Chorale will perform Haydn’s masterpiece Te Deum and a choral arrangement of Eliza Gilkyson’s Requiem, a piece composed in tribute to the victims of the Asian tsunami of 2004.

 

The concert also features the long anticipated collaboration between the USU choirs and the Cache Valley-based folk band Leaping Lulu, Evans said.

 

“The collaboration will feature some great Irish and American tunes, with a decidedly Celtic flair,” Evans said.
