USU Chamber Singers Perform for National Conference at Yale
The Utah State University Chamber Singers, part of the Caine School of the Arts, performed at the invitation-only National Collegiate Choral Organization Conference hosted at Yale University in November.

The conference is a meeting for all college choir directors, who are also typically the leading scholars in choral music. It is quite the honor to have a group from Utah State perform for this assembly of the most respected professionals in the musical industry, Evans said. Only six college choirs from across the country were recognized for their outstanding musical talent and invited to sing for the event.
“The Chamber Singers had a fabulous trip to New York City and a stunning performance at Yale,” Evans said.
The conference was held Nov. 5-7, and the Chamber Singers were selected to conclude the week’s events with a concert immediately before the closing remarks in the Sprague Recital Hall.
Evans said most of the other college choirs selected to perform in this spectacular event were from the east. Besides the USU Chamber singers, other groups from the western United States invited to participate in the conference program included choirs from California and Colorado State.
“There is an intense audition process choirs must go through in order to be selected to perform for this event,” Evans said. “The selection and performance of the Chamber Singers, as well as the vast amount of attention given to the talented USU group, is a significant event bringing honor to the Caine School of the Arts and Utah State. This performance shows that Utah State University houses one of the elite college choral ensembles in the country. Our Chamber Singers represented USU in a revered, respected venue.”
Besides the USU performance and concerts by Yale and other visiting choirs the NCCO Conference also featured a broad variety of activities. Open rehearsals, lectures, panel discussions and meetings of national officers and board members were a few of the other types of on-going events.

The NCCO is an organization serving college and university choral conductors. With a membership of over 400, the organization’s mission is to address the specific needs of college and university choral musicians.
