USU Celebrates Idle Free Awareness Month

Utah State University will be an idle-free campus celebrating “Idle Free Awareness Month” during September.

Idle Free Utah is a collaboration of state, municipal and private organizations working to reduce vehicle idling time across the state. USU adopted a new policy to become an idle free campus in July 2012.

Idling commonly occurs when waiting to pick someone up, running into a store on a quick errand and stopping to talk with family and friends. Vehicle idling contributes to air pollution, including the formation of PM 2.5. Exhaust from idling vehicles can pose health risks both to vehicle operators and the surrounding community.

Idle reduction is a great way to save money, breathe easier and protect the environment.

The USU Sustainability Council will hand out informational brochures and Idle Free vehicle decals at various campus locations throughout the month.
