USU Campus Community Invited to Participate in the Great Utah Shake Out

Utah State University’s Emergency Management Committee invites the campus community to participate in the largest earthquake drill in Utah Thursday, April 19, at 10:15 am.  Thousands of Utahns will "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" in the Great Utah Shake Out.  All USU departments, including regional campuses and USU Eastern, are encouraged to participate in this exercise.  

In order for USU to comply with the Clery Act, USU is required to participate in one evacuation drill per year. The Great Utah Shake Out is the perfect opportunity to meet this requirement. Participation is not mandatory. However, all departments are encouraged to participate. Below are participation options: 

Option 1:  (Drill and Evacuation)
•    At 10:15 am, Thursday, April 19, play the following audio clip of the earthquake drill:

•    Each person drops (under a desk or table), covers (protect their head), and holds on (hold on the best you can) for approximately one minute.
•    After listening to the audio clip, each person evacuates to the designated meeting location outside the building as established by your department or instructor.
•    The individual designated as “in-charge” (i.e. instructor, department head, CERT member) fills out the attached “Accountability Report”.  List the name of individuals that participate in the exercise under the “drill participant” section.  

The drill lasts approximately 1 minute and the evacuation should only take about 10-15 minutes.Special Note: As this is a drill, either lock the door as everyone leaves or have one person stay behind for security. In the event of an actual emergency, do not lock the door and have everyone evacuate. 

Option 2: (Drill)
•    At 10:15 am, Thursday, April 19, play the following audio clip of the earthquake drill:
