USU's Brad Cole Speaks in Salt Lake City

Brad Cole, director of USU Special Collections and Archives and interim dean for University Libraries at Utah State University, is the guest speaker for the “Annual Book Collectors Evening” in Salt Lake City.

Cole’s presentaton is a part of “an eventful evening of rare books and a silent auction” sponsored by the University of Utah’s Friends of the J. Willard Marriott Library. The event is Tuesday, March 24, and begins at 6 p.m.

Cole’s presentation is titled “Tramps, Snarks and Abysses: the Origins of Utah State University’s Jack London Collection.” He plans to discuss — with “lively, anecdotal, specific, up-to-the-minute examples — how great archives and important research collections have been built and have relied so overwhelmingly over the decades — and still do to this day — on the passion and eccentricities of rare book dealers and private collectors.”

The gathering is held at the Alta Club, 100 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah.

The evening also includes an opportunity to share book collecting adventures, as well as favorite books, with fellow aficionados.

Cost of the evening is $45 per person.
