USU's Bill Garren is Mountain West Conference Video Coordinator of the Year

Utah State University Athletics video coordinator Bill Garren has been named the 2014 Collegiate Sports Video Association’s (CSVA) Mountain West Conference Video Coordinator of the Year. The award was announced April 30.

This is the fifth-straight year that Garren has been honored by the CSVA. He was previously honored as the Western Athletic Conference Video Coordinator of the Year from 2009-12.

Garren was selected for the award by his peers in the Mountain West and is now a finalist for the prestigious Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year. The conference and National Video Coordinator of the Year awards will be presented during the 20th annual Collegiate Sports Video Conference May 19-22 in Houston, Texas.

Garren, who is in his ninth year at Utah State, is responsible for managing all aspects of athletic video and editing within the athletics department. His responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the video room and assisting with the video needs of all of USU’s 16 intercollegiate sports.

Additionally, Garren provides technical support and training for coaches and support staff using the latest video technology available.

Along with his day-to-day duties, Garren and his staff produce numerous football highlight and motivational videos throughout the year that are shown to booster groups and recruits and are also available on the Internet.

As one of the longest-tenured video coordinators in the Mountain West, Garren and his staff have been instrumental in numerous enhancements for both the Aggie football coaching staff and players to utilize game film. In his efforts, Garren has overseen the construction of the video room in the Stan and Carl Laub Athletics-Academics Complex and upgrades to equipment in all meeting rooms and offices.

Under his direction, the video department has streamlined the network in order for coaches and players to have open access to watch video.

Prior to his current role at Utah State, Garren served as the video coordinator at Idaho State in 2000 and 2001 before moving to San Jose State for the 2002 season. He was then an assistant football and track coach at his high school in Montrose, Colo., in 2003 before spending the 2004 and 2005 seasons as video coordinator at Idaho State.
