USU Big Band Jazz Concert Features Three Guest Artists

Utah State University’s Caine College of the Arts presents the Big Band Jazz Concert featuring three renowned artists at the USU Performance Hall Tuesday, April 12.

“Since this is the last jazz concert of the school year, we wanted to get a special guest artist, and somehow we were able to get three,” said Jon Gudmundson, director of the USU Jazz Orchestra in the Department of Music.

Marco Renzi, director of the Italian Big Band, clarinetist Bepi D’Amato and alto saxophonist Dave Pietro are featured at the concert.

Renzi and Gudmundson will each direct multiple pieces during the concert, including Pietro’s own compositions.

“It’s exciting for musicians of this caliber to interact with the students and educate them at a higher level,” said Gudmundson. “I believe this will encourage the students to play at their very best during the performance.”

The concert begins with a performance by students from the USU Chamber Singers and Chorale, followed by the introduction of Renzi, D’Amato and Pietro.

Tickets are $8 for general admission and free for USU students.

More information and tickets are available at the Caine College of the Arts Box Office in room 139-B of the Chase Fine Arts Center, online and by calling 435-797-8022.
