USU Associate Professor of Immunogenetics Presents Memorial Lecture

Chris Davies, research associate professor of immunogenetics with the Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences and Center for Integrated BioSystems, was invited to deliver the 2009 Raymond O. Berry Memorial Lecture.

 

The lecture was the keynote talk at the Annual Interdisciplinary Faculty of Reproductive Biology Retreat for Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. Davies presented the lecture at the Art Gallery at Messina Hof Winery and Resort Friday, Oct. 2.

 

“I’m extremely honored to have been selected by the Intercollegiate Faculty of Reproduction at Texas A&M University to present this year’s Dr. Raymond O. Berry Memorial Lecture in Reproductive Immunology,” said Davies.

 

Davies said Texas A&M has made significant contributions to the fields of reproductive biology and reproductive immunology, including the discovery by Fuller Bazer and colleagues that Interferon-tau (IFN-t) is the pregnancy recognition factor in ruminants.

 

“Many of the previous R.O. Berry Lecturers are scientists who I consider to be my mentors and/or leaders in the field of reproductive immunology,” said Davies.

 

Davies has dual experience as both a veterinarian and reproductive immunologist. He received the J. Christian Herr Award from the American Society of Reproductive Immunology and is the recipient of more than 32 invitations to present his research at both the national and international levels.

 

The annual memorial lecture honors the memory of Berry, a highly respected pioneer in embryo transfer and the evaluation of genetic factors affecting reproduction. The lecture is presented annually by a scientist in the field of reproductive immunology to discuss timely issues in agriculture, veterinary medicine and human medicine.
