USU Associate Professor begins Second Term on Utah Housing Board

Lucy Delgadillo, an associate professor in the Family, Consumer, and Human Development Department, recently started her second four-year term on the Utah Housing Corporation Board.

The position is appointed by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert. Delgadillo represents the public at large, she said.

The corporation partners with private entities to make housing available to Utah’s working poor, adopting several strategies to make affordable housing available to Utahns. Delgadillo outlines some of them in a recent blog post.

It’s a mission she believes in, she said. The corporation uses a system of tax credits, down payment assistance and subsidized interest loans to provide affordable housing. The result is housing that is supported by both government and private developers that is mixed with the rest of the community.

“Utah Housing Corporation is not a direct supplier, but it is the vehicle by which the private sector provides affordable housing,” she said. “They provide the conditions. It’s a good program.”
