USU and the College of Business Honor Vernon M. Buehler

Utah State University’s College of Business, in conjunction with President Stan Albrecht, hosted an appreciation dinner that honored Vernon M. Buehler. The event was held at the President’s home.

 

Buehler has shown tremendous support for Utah State University and the College of Business by funding two endowments in the Partners in Business program and five scholarship endowments.

 

Buehler received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Utah State Agricultural College in 1937, and served as a management professor at USU for 21 years. While at USU, he founded and directed the student-run Business Partners program, featuring acclaimed seminar speakers such as Milton Friedman and Alan Greenspan. This nationally recognized program continues today after three decades.

 

In 1989, he retired from teaching and his academic chapter at USU came to an end. It was at this time he assumed what he describes as “the most significant challenge of his life,” becoming a home care-provider to his wife, MaRee, during the last year of her life.

 

The following year, Buehler began a new volume in his life — that of volunteer and philanthropist. His volunteer efforts were centered both at home and abroad. For three years, he served as a volunteer professor in Poland, Ukraine and Russia. Another year was spent consulting in Thailand with USU’s Skills Development Project. From 1980-2005 he volunteered at Logan’s Sunshine Terrace assisted living and rehabilitation center, including serving six years as president of the foundation board.

 

The youngest boy of seven siblings reared in Daniels, Idaho, Buehler says he owes much to his parents for instilling in him the value of hard work and conservatism.

 

Tuesday’s dinner also celebrated the Dr. Vernon Maughan Buehler and MaRee C. Buehler Endowed Professorships with a tribute by College of Business Dean Caryn Beck-Dudley and a special presentation by the dean and President Albrecht.
