USU's American Festival Chorus Presents Second Concert of the Week

The American Festival Chorus presents its second concert of the week Saturday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center. The centerpiece of the concert is Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The American Festival Chorus is a new organization that is a community outreach program sponsored by Utah State University’s Department of Music and the Caine School of the Arts.

 

Tickets for the Nov. 15 concert are $10 and are available at the CSA Box Office (797-8022; boxoffice.usu.edu). USU students with valid ID are admitted free. No children under 8 years of age.

 

Directed by Craig Jessop, department head in music, the chorus includes more than 260 singers from beyond a 50-mile radius. Comprised of volunteer community members and university students, the chorus sings for a love of the art form and the joy members experience from performing.

 

The evening’s program includes the timeless Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Mozart Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in C Major, featuring pianist Frank Chiou, a new addition to the faculty in USU’s Department of Music. The concert marks the debut of the American Festival Orchestra and also features soloists Cindy Dewey, soprano; Carla Rae Cook, mezzo-soprano; Cory Evans, tenor, and Steven Meredith, bass.

 

“There is no question that this new symphonic chorus will set a high standard of musical excellence for Cache Valley and beyond,” said Craig Jessop. “We are excited to perform for the community of Cache Valley.”

 

This is the second concert of the week provided by the American Festival Chorus. A Veteran’s Day concert was presented Nov. 11.
