USU Alumni Rush Park City for First Swaner Snowcase

After two dry years, Utah’s signature snowy winter has returned. The weather has drawn skiers back to the slopes and prompted Utah State University to organize a winter alumni event in Park City the first weekend of February.

The Swaner Snowcase takes place the evening of Friday, Feb. 5, and all day, Saturday, Feb. 6 — at various locations — and invites USU alumni to participate in popular activities like skiing at the Park City Resort and quieter, lesser-known activities like snowshoeing at USU’s Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter (located at 1258 Center Drive, Park City, Utah).

The weekend will offer a mix of activities, many low cost or free. Preregistration is required for some events, so alumni are encouraged to visit the Snowcase website for details.

The Swaner Snowcase is designed to promote USU’s 1,200-acre preserve and facility adjacent to Kimball Junction during the quiet winter season.

“Park City is such a hub for all kinds of outdoor recreation, but during the winter ski season the resorts tend to receive the most attention,” said Nell Larson, executive director for the preserve. “There are lots of other options, however, and at the preserve we are witnesses to abundant wildlife and a flurry of activity year-round that shouldn’t be missed.”

Recognizing that many USU Aggies may want variety throughout the weekend, many indoor and outdoor activities were added to the schedule. Friday night features an Aggie bowling meet-up at Jupiter Bowl, located at 1090 Center Dr. in Park City, and Saturday evening includes a Café Rio-catered USU basketball watch party at the EcoCenter. Aggies will have a choice of activities during the day on Saturday, including free guided snowshoe tours (equipment provided), downhill skiing or crafts and indoor rock climbing at the center.
