USU Alumni Honored
Utah State University honored five alumni and friends of the university in October at a banquet held in their honor at the David B. Haight Alumni House.
Swede Larson, John Lemperle, Paul Workman, and Dean and Joyce Adams were acknowledged for their contributions and inducted into the Alumni Hall of Honor. All five inductees received degrees from Utah State.
"The Alumni Hall of Honor recognizes alumni and friends of USU for their unselfish devotion and service to Utah State University and the alumni association," said Kim Larson, director of chapters for USU's Alumni Relations.
While studying as a USU student, Swede Larson served as ASUSU president and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. After receiving a bachelor's degree in journalism, Larson continued to give back to the university. In addition to his work as a sportswriter for The Salt Lake Tribune and farm and garden editor for The Deseret News, Larson served as assistant vice president of student affairs and advisor of USU's Blue Key Chapter.
Swede Larson has served as alumni director at Utah State and as dean of education. He is a USU Alumni Sustaining Member and has been Homecoming Parade Grand Marshall.
Lemperle lives and works in San Diego, Calif., but he has not forgotten about Cache Valley. He used his bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering from Utah State in his rise to vice president of Annacomp, Inc. Today, he owns and operates his own business.
While at USU, Lemperle served as president of the Sigma Chi fraternity, and in the last few years served as president of the San Diego Aggie Chapter. As such, he was instrumental in awarding an Alumni Legacy scholarship to the university from the Aggie San Diego Chapter.
Workman's bachelor's degree in journalism helped launch him into a successful career in the banking industry. Today, he is the senior vice president of Bank West of Nevada. He also serves as president of the Las Vegas Aggie Chapter and is an Alumni Sustaining Member.
Dean and Joyce Adams now live in Reno, Nev., where Dean is associate dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Nevada Reno. He and Joyce remain loyal Aggies. Each received degrees from Utah State where Dean earned a doctorate in chemistry and Joyce earned a bachelor's degree in management and human resources.
After they moved to Nevada, Dean and Joyce became influential in starting the Northern Nevada Aggie Chapter where they have each served as president. Both are lifetime Alumni Sustaining Members.
"We are very grateful for all of the selfless service to Utah State University that these recipients have provided," said Kim Larson. "We are proud to call them our alumni and to induct them into the Alumni Hall of Honor.
