USU Alumni Band July 3: Independence Day

Join the Utah State University Alumni Band as it celebrates the birth of the nation with an Independence Day salute Sunday, July 3, at 7 p.m. on the USU Quad.

Sunday’s program includes guest performances by the American Festival Chorus, who will be joined by young singers from the valley, organized by the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program.

The American Festival Chorus (AFC) was founded in the summer of 2008 with Craig Jessop, dean of the Caine College of the Arts, as music director. The chorus brings together more than 200 talented singers, including faculty and students from the Department of Music at USU.

“The band is grateful to the American Festival Chorus for its participation and to band members Leslie Timmons and Karen Teuscher for their efforts in organizing the young singers,” Nicholas Morrison, the band’s music director said. “These children, many of whom were nominated by music specialists at schools across Cache Valley, represent the future of America, and I’m sure you’ll agree the future is a bright one!”

Along with AFC and the young singers, the Alumni Band will perform The Star Spangled Banner, On the Mall, This Land and America the Beautiful. These will be followed by Cohan’s Big Three, conducted by Jessop with AFC.

“Bring the whole family and a picnic dinner and some blankets,” Morrison said. “We’ll see you on the Quad at 7 p.m.”

This year’s Alumni Band concerts are held on July 17, 31 and Aug. 7. Performances begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public. Concerts will be held on the USU Quad. In case of inclement weather, performances will be held in the Morgan Theatre in the Chase Fine Arts Center.
