USU Alumni Association to Award Tailgater of the Game/Year
Tailgaters are encouraged to participate in the USU Alumni Association's competition.
The Utah State University Alumni Association is launching a new competition this season to encourage more involvement at pre-game tailgates for home football games.
The “Tailgater of the Year” competition recognizes Aggie fans during each game with the “Tailgater of the Game” award, and one fan with the “Tailgater of the Year” at the conclusion the season. A large set of prizes have been assembled, including a Camp Chef stovetop grill for game winners and a custom wrapped and fully outfitted tailgating trailer, courtesy of Sam T. Evans Trailers of Ogden, for the season winner.
To be considered for the Tailgater of the Game, the tailgater must register by visiting the USU Alumni Association tent at Fanfest. Judges traverse the tailgate lot prior to game time and score each of the tailgaters. The tailgaters are ranked on the visibility of Aggie gear, enthusiasm and the number of people in attendance, among other things.
The Tailgater of the Year will be chosen from the six Tailgater of the Game winners. Tailgating consistency, repeat wins and scores relative to other pre-qualified tailgaters earn points toward the final contest.
The Tailgater of the Game/Year competition was soft launched during the SUU game and has already been well received by the modest but growing number of tailgaters, according to Alumni Association organizers. Fourteen parties registered for the competition and others have expressed interest in participating at the next game, the homecoming game against Colorado State University. Notorious tailgater and USU trustee Lane Thomas took home the first prize.
