USU Adds 'Fun' to Fundraising with Aggie Rewards Program

Utah State University has adopted a new online program that rewards alumni and friends for shopping online and engaging with university websites and social networks. It is called Aggie Rewards.

Aggie Rewards gives points to users when they shop online with any retail partner of the program. Participating online retailers include Amazon, Walmart, Groupon, Kohl’s and over 3,000 more. In addition, each time a user buys something online from one of these partners, a percentage of the purchase is donated to USU, without any additional cost to the user.

“We’re constantly looking for innovative ways to connect with our alumni on a level that is relevant and beneficial to both them and the university,” said Rob Behunin, vice president for Advancement and Commercialization. “Aggie Rewards is a perfect fit. It gives our alumni a fun way to earn prizes that are specific to USU and to give back to the university at the same time.”

The program is free to download. It is browser-based and installs on most popular Internet browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.

“Aggie fans are already shopping online, so they don’t have to change what they’re doing, but now they can give back to USU and earn rewards for doing it,” said Behunin.

“It’s very easy to install and use,” said Brandon Taylor, director of marketing for Advancement and Alumni Relations. “Once it’s installed, you can start earning points and rewards immediately. It’s really a win-win situation for the university and its supporters.”

Points are also awarded for interacting with USU online through university websites and social networks. Similar to online shopping, Taylor said this online engagement with USU is also currently taking place among many alumni, students and friends of the institution.

Past prizes for Aggie Rewards users include season basketball tickets, Aggie clothing packages, textbook scholarships, on-campus meal plans, Aggie Ice Cream, tickets to local art performances, get away packages at the University Inn and more.
