U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Official March 19 Water Initiative Speaker
Utah State University’s Water Initiative welcomes Larry Walkoviak of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation to campus Wednesday, March 19. Walkoviak, who serves as director of the Upper Colorado Region, presents “New Challenges for the Upper Colorado Region,” at 4 p.m. in the Biology-Natural Resources building, room 102. His talk is free and open to all.
Walkoviak, whose agency recently conducted a third high-flow experiment on the Colorado River at Glen Canyon Dam, has served with the Bureau of Reclamation for more than 30 years. He has held several managerial positions where he was responsible for bureau planning studies, environmental compliance, operations and maintenance in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah.
Walkoviak holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering from Texas A&M University. He is the recipient of the U.S. Department of Interior’s Superior Service and Meritorious Service awards.
The USU Water Initiative is an interdisciplinary collaboration of the university’s Utah Water Research Laboratory, the colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, Natural Resources, Science and Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences, and the Huntsman School of Business. Established in 2003, the initiative fosters collegial sharing of water-related research and ideas throughout campus and the community.

All seminars begin at 4 p.m. in BNR 102.
Registration is underway for the Water Initiative’s annual Spring Runoff Conference March 31-April 1. The initiative also seeks proposals for 2008 Research and Teaching Initiation Grants; proposal submissions are due March 17.
