Trickle-Down Theory

Could the decline of aspen in Western forests lessen the amount of water flowing down from the mountains into valley watersheds? It’s possible, say USU researchers, who compared water yield from aspen stands versus conifer-dominated areas that spring up where aspen die. Aspen zones had higher snowpacks and increased soil moisture.
