Tradition Bearers Pass Lifeways to Children

Folklorists call community members who pass along skills and folkways to the next generation “tradition bearers.” Most don’t think of themselves as teachers, says curator Randy Williams of the Fife Folklore Archives at Utah State University, but they connect youngsters to their ancestors. A common characteristic all tradition bearers share is a love for what they do.
