Todd Newman Named Professional Employee of the Quarter

Utah State University multimedia specialist Todd Newman was awarded the Professional Employee Association (PEA) Employee of the Quarter for fall 2006.

“Todd is a great resource and strength to his department,” said Doug Garrett, chair of professional relations for PEA. “He excels in everything that he works on, and his positive attitude and desire to help has encouraged and motivated employees.”

Newman has worked for Utah State’s Center for Persons with Disabilities (CPD) for 15 years. He has polished skills in many aspects of video production including DVD authoring, video editing and post audio production. Newman is also responsible for the design and installation of systems and facilities for the CPD’s video production and distance learning.

The PEA Employee of the Quarter is awarded to full-time employees at USU who exhibit outstanding professional work ethic and contribute service to and involvement within the community. Newman was the central figure in designing, developing and installing Utah State’s complex and unique distance education multimedia system, according to Garrett.

“Todd’s creativity and desire to perform to the best of his ability are crucial to the success of the department,” Garrett said. “He gives freely of his time and often takes additional personal time to work with fellow employees to ensure that they learn what they need to know about media production.”

Newman’s desire to improve his own learning has led to a stronger, more efficient department for the university, Garrett said. Newman has won more than 20 various awards for his accomplishments as a still photographer, videographer and audio/video editor from the prestigious Telly Awards and the American Film and Video Festival Awards, Garrett said.

Newman’s many accomplishments and contributions to the university on a professional and personal level are visible to faculty, staff and the students who nominated him for the award. Newman has “always strived to encourage a team environment,” Garrett said.

Newman has numerous projects in mind that will significantly improve USU in the future, Garrett said. For this PEA Employee of the Quarter there is “no project too big or too complex” he can’t handle.
