Three USU Broadcasting Students Win Regional Awards

Three broadcasting students at Utah State University have won regional awards for excellence from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Gina Blake took individual awards for television sports photography, television features and television general news reporting. Coreena Payne and Whitney Ryser won for a breaking television news report with their account of the memorial for USU students and a faculty member killed in a van rollover in September.
 
The television entries aired on weekly cablecasts produced by students in the USU department of journalism and communication during calendar year 2005.
 
The students placed in the top three in their competition categories in the SPJ Region 9 Mark of Excellence Contest. First, second and third places will be announced at the regional awards ceremony April 28-29 at the Denver Press Club. Region 9 comprises the colleges and universities in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and El Paso County, Texas.
