Texas Children's Choir Special Guests for USU Concert Series
The Texas Children’s Choir joins the roster of artists performing at Utah State University in the “At the Performance Hall” concert series. Sponsored by the department of music at USU as a scholarship fundraiser, the concert series features USU music department faculty and invited guests.
The Texas Children’s Choir will perform at USU Friday, June 12, 7:30 p.m. at the Performance Hall (approximately 1090 E. 675 North, Logan). Admission is $10 for everyone.
Tickets are available in advance at the Caine School of the Arts Box Office in the Chase Fine Arts Center, Room 139B, online or over the phone, (435) 797-8022. Tickets are also available at the door performance evenings.
The Texas Children’s Choir is recognized in the state of Texas and beyond its borders for the quality choral music it provides for military command events, including U.S. Department of Defense, city government and civic events, in addition to charitable, church and educational events. The choir is under the leadership of Tom Hardaway, director, and Bethany Hill, associate director.
The choir is in the midst of a tour of the West, with a performance scheduled in Salt Lake City with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and an appearance on “Music and the Spoken Word.” During the tour the choir will perform for Colorado’s First Lady at the Colorado state capitol and for the faculty and staff at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
While in Logan, the Texas Children’s Choir will participate in a master class conducted by USU Music Department Head Craig Jessop. During the visit, the Cache Children’s Choir hosts the group for a choir exchange and activities in Logan canyon, including a picnic and hike. Members of the choirs have communicated by email, and Jill DeVilbiss, a director with Cache Children’s Choir, said members of her group look forward to meeting their electronic pen pals in person. DeVilbiss directs the Cantate Choir, the Cache Children’s Choir’s advanced-level group.
During its appearance in Logan for At the Performance Hall, the Texas Children’s Choir will include a number of selections that will be performed in the Salt Lake City Assembly Hall appearance. In the Logan concert, the choir will be joined by members of the Cache Children’s Choir’s Cantate Choir for three numbers at the concert’s finale.
The Texas Children’s Choir includes 52 boys and girls, ages 8-15, who perform classical, patriotic, sacred and show music. The choir performs approximately 15 times a year.
“We are pleased that this talented group is joining us at Utah State University,” said music department head Craig Jessop. “I invite everyone to attend and enjoy the talents of these young artists.”
All proceeds of the At the Performance Hall series support scholarships in USU’s department of music. For information about the series, contact the music department, (435) 797-3015. Ticket information is available at (435) 797-8022.
