Teens: Register Now for USU's Biotechnology Summer Academy

Utah State University is again offering summer laboratory experiences for high school students interested in biological sciences and engineering. The 14th annual Biotechnology Summer Academy, sponsored by USU’s Center for Integrated BioSystems, will be held July 7-11 on USU’s Logan campus.

Summer Academy is a five-day biotechnology program for students entering grades 11 and 12, who are interested in any science field. Guided by faculty mentors, participants learn lab techniques in a hands-on, inquiry-based environment, while being introduced to the college experience.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for teens to experience research at the university level,” says Aaron Thomas, CIB program director. “Hands-on learning is a great way to learn about college study and future careers.”

The scope of biological science topics participants can explore includes biology, genomics, bioinformatics, engineering, chemistry, nutrition science, agricultural sciences and computer science.

Tuition for the program is $200, which includes residence hall lodging, meals and recreational activities. An advanced program is available for returning students.
