Steven R. Harris Named Collection Development and Management Librarian

Utah State University Libraries has named Steven R. Harris the Collection Development and Management Librarian. Harris’ duties include oversight of all short and long-range plans for further development and care of all library information collections.

“Everything I do is geared towards ensuring that faculty and students at Utah State have the information they need in order to do research and learn,” said Harris. “We really want to make the information available to library users with as few barriers as possible.”

Harris comes to Utah State most recently from Knoxville, Tenn, but is a native of Ogden, Utah. Prior to accepting this new position, Harris was an associate professor and English literature librarian at the University of Tennessee.

“I have worked at five other university libraries in my career before coming to Utah State, so I have seen a lot of different practices and procedures,” said Harris. “There is a really great public service mentality in the library here; people truly want to see library users succeed in finding information.”

When asked about how the Utah State’s library system competes with those of other universities, Harris was positive. “I think we do an excellent job in getting the most for the money we have,” said Harris. “We make use of technology in a very positive way. Once we move into the new library in a year or so, I think students will be very impressed with how efficiently they will be able to do research.”

Harris received a bachelor’s degree in English from Weber State University, a master’s in English and American literature from the University of Utah, and a master's of library science from the University of Arizona.

Harris can be contacted at steven.harris@usu.edu, (435) 797-3861, or by visiting the library administrative offices in the Merrill Library.
