State and Federal Ownership of Public Land: Advancing the Conversation
A discussion of the proposed legislation for a federal land transfer takes place at USU Wednesday, Jan. 21, 11:30 a.m., in Engineering 101.
Utah House Bill 148 seeks the transfer of over 30 million acres from federal to state control. Economists from Utah State University, the University of Utah and Weber State University have recently completed an economic analysis of the proposed transfer.
Dr. Paul Jakus, of USU’s Department of Applied Economics, and Therese Grijalva, professor in the Dept. of Economics at Weber State University, will present a non-technical summary of the report addressing some of the important questions such as:
- What is the link between public land management and economic growth?
- What is the net economic value of outdoor recreation?
- If the state does take over management of public lands what are the projected costs and revenues?
Ample time will be provided for questions.
The presentation is Wednesday, Jan. 21, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Engineering Room 101. USU faculty, staff and students are invited.
