Stacie Lifferth Runs to USU Athlete of the Week Honor

LOGAN — Utah State University runner Stacie Lifferth's record-setting performance was good enough to earn her the Utah State Athlete of the Week honor it was announced Tuesday [Feb. 13, 2007]. Lifferth won in a split vote with three other Aggie athletes who had outstanding weeks.
 
Lifferth, a junior from Northridge High School in Layton, Utah, recorded a time of 9:51.99 in the 3,000 meters at the Husky Invitational at the University of Washington on Saturday [Feb. 10]. That beat the former school record of 9:54.44, which was set in 1992 by former Aggie All-American Alisa Nicodemus.
 
Earlier this season Lifferth won the 3,000 at the Washington State Invitational. Last year, she recorded the second-best 3,000-meter steeplechase time in school history (10:31.95), and owns four school top-10 times in addition to the indoor 3,000 and outdoor steeplechase. She has the fifth-best indoor mile and ninth-best outdoor 1,500 times.
 
Utah State will compete in the WAC Championships set for Feb. 22-24 at Boise, Idaho.
 
NOMINEES FROM OTHER SPORTS INCLUDED:
 
Basketball: Jaycee Carroll — junior guard scored 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting and added eight rebounds and three assists in USU's win at Idaho.
 
Women's Basketball: Brittany Phillips — the senior, forward from Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah, tallied career highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds in Monday's 68-51 win at New Mexico State. She then added a team-high 12 points in Saturday's 57-53 win at Idaho, helping Utah State win back-to-back road games for the first time since Nov. 2004. Phillips hit a season-high three three-pointers in Monday's win as well.
 
Gymnastics: Meagan Lewis — against fourth-ranked Utah, she fueled the Aggies to their season-high team score as she finished in third-place in the all-around with a 39.025. Won the all-around at home against Boise State [Feb. 1] with a score of 39.025, with high scores on bars (9.800) and the floor (9.800).
 
Softball: Amy Schaible — hit two home runs in USU's first four games of the season. She recorded multiple hits in three of the four games as the Aggies went 2-2 to open the year.
 
Men's Tennis: Michael Banks — won both his singles match and his doubles match in USU loss to Weber State. He improved to 2-1 in both singles and doubles on the season. Is playing number six singles this season.
 
Women's Tennis: Courtney Anderson — Playing number one singles, she extended a five-match winning streak with a victory against UC Riverside. She then suffered her first loss on the season losing to a UNLV All-American the next day.
 
Men's Track: Dasheek Akwenye — posted a conference-leading mark at the Boise State Invitational in the 400-meters with a time of 48.20 which tied him for seventh-place in the Utah State record books. He was also part of the men's 4x400 relay team that made their way into the Utah State record books posting a time of 3:14.32, second all-time.
