Speech and Debate Team Places Second in Tournament

Utah State's Speech and Debate Team returned from its second Northwest Conference Tournament in Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., where it placed second overall against 27 other universities.

 

“Even though Utah State placed second, it is still in first place for the overall conference rankings,” said Tom Worthen, the team’s coach.

 

Utah State students who placed in Debate include Tom Grover, Tom and Clayton Coleman, Richard Walker and Sheila Langford. Grover also placed in Persuasive Speaking with Chelsea Sutton and Richard Walker.

 

Eric Peatross, Trent Wood and Sutton placed in Informative speaking. Utah State students also placed in After Dinner Speaking, Communication Analysis, Poetry Interpretation and Extemporaneous Speaking.

 

The Speech and Debate Team will attend its next tournament at the University of Utah in January and its final conference tournament and final tournament of the year the last week in January at Pacific University in Forest Grove Ore.
