Some Vehicles May Need Emissions Inspection for USU Parking Permit

Purchasing a parking permit at Utah State University may first require an emissions inspection for some in-state and out-of-state vehicles.

USU will follow Utah Code 41-6a-1642 Emissions Inspection – County Program. Owners of vehicles less than six years old from counties and states that do not already require emissions testing will have to show proof of an inspection.

“We have a plan in place to minimize the impact of complying with the new rule so students and employees won’t face delays in getting their parking permits,” said James Nye, Director of USU Parking and Transportation. USU Motor Pool will offer emissions inspections for $15 (standard county rate), which should be paid at the USU Parking and Transportation office. An emissions inspection may also be done off campus.

Nye expects the new requirement to affect less than two percent of those purchasing parking permits. Additional guidelines are available on their website:  parking.usu.edu.

“If you’re not sure if you’ll need an emissions inspection, the best thing to do is just give us a call or stop by our office,” said Nye.

Parking and Transportation has another update for those who ride the Aggie Shuttle. The Aggie Shuttle evening route has been extended until 9 p.m.
