Snails Junk Food for Fish

The tiny New Zealand mud snail, which could reduce fish populations throughout the American West, is spread by the very swimmers it threatens. The snails offer fast food for fish, such as trout, but little nutritional value. Utah State University researchers discovered that up to 43 percent of the ingested snails pass through trouts' digestive systems unharmed and able to infest new areas.
