Shade Lovers

Most people think shade-loving plants only include perennials and groundcovers, but many shrubs and small trees actually prefer part of filtered shade. When “part shade” is indicated on a plant tag, it generally means the plant needs protection from hot afternoon sun. Good choices include Japanese maple, flowering dogwood and Oregon grape holly.
