Seminar puts Travel to Mars in the Spotlight

Two Russian scientists will be on the Utah State University campus to present a seminar that focuses on traveling to Mars.

Victor Baranov and Vladimir Sychev are featured in a presentation, “Mars 500-day Simulated Spaceflight Experiment,” Monday, Nov. 20, at 2:30 p.m. in BNR room 278.

 

According to the Web site Space.com, Russian space researchers will lock six men in a metal tube for more than a year in an effort to mimic the stresses and challenges of a manned mission to Mars. The 500-day experiment is under the direction of the Russian Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP).

 

Baranov is the deputy director and Sychev is laboratory head for biological life support systems at IBMP, based in Moscow.
