Second Chance Run to Raise Organ Donation Awareness

The Second Chance 5K Run, an event to raise awareness about the importance of organ donations, takes place on the Utah State University campus Saturday, April 17, at 9 a.m. The race begins and ends at the Utah State track and field complex northeast of Romney Stadium.

Pre-registration takes place until April 13 and will cost $10. Cost of the run on race day is $15 and walkups can register from 8-8:45 a.m. Registration forms are available online at idslife.org, at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum Ticket Office and at various locations in Logan. Registration includes a t-shirt, drinks and snacks. A drawing for donated prizes will be held after the race in the parking lot west of Romney Stadium.

The objective of this event is to raise awareness about the importance of organ donations. Several special guests will be in attendance, including organ donor recipients, families of organ donors and families who have waited for or are waiting for an organ donor at this time. With hope, the campaign will encourage others to make arrangements to become organ donors in cases of sudden tragedy. Every day 16 people die waiting for an organ donor.

This important event is being arranged by a great group of volunteers: Cache Valley Volunteer Center, Utah State University Volunteer Center, Utah State Athletics, Auxiliary Fire Department, Intermountain Donor Services, Bear River Health Department, Parker Real Estate Services, Bonneville Realty, Geary Electric, Landmark Companies, Joel Allred, Kevin Humphreys, Cheryl Delancy, Mary Farley, and Nellene Howard.

All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend.
