Saturday's Braveheart Run Benefits 'Baby Jadee'

Utah State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences holds the fifth annual 5/10K “Braveheart Run,” which this year benefits the infant daughter of a Utah State student.

The Braveheart is organized by CHaSS students in USU’s Air Force ROTC and Aerospace Studies Department. As in years past, 100 percent of proceeds from the event will go to aid a child in need. This year’s recipient is “Baby Jadee.”

USU’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is co-sponsoring the event as Jadee’s father is a student in that department. The baby’s parents have requested to remain anonymous in public announcements.

Scheduled to take place beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 28, the run begins and ends on the west side of the Taggart Student Center at USU.

Weighing only 3 pounds, 9 ounces, baby Jadee has extensive medical complications requiring surgery. Some have been completed and more are required. Jadee’s mother delivered her at 35 weeks after being life-flighted from Logan to the University of Utah where an emergency delivery was performed.

Though they live in Logan, baby Jadee’s parents spend many days a month at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City where the child’s pediatrician and a team of early intervention therapists are located.

“By registering and running with us, you will have the opportunity to provide invaluable assistance to Jadee and her family,” said Joann Wade, business manager for USU’s Aerospace Studies and Air Force ROTC.

There is still an opportunity to register to take part in this year’s Braveheart 5/10K Run. Same-day registration is $15 and begins at 7:30 a.m. March 28 near the starting line on the west side of the Taggart Student Center. Registrants will receive a bib number and raffle ticket.

Jadee and her family will receive 100 percent of the race proceeds.

Individuals unable to take part in the event can donate by visiting the Facebook page, clicking on the link to online registration  then choose the “donation only” option at the top of the page. Online run registration closed March 25. Only same-day registration is currently available.

“We hope to raise as much as possible for this deserving family,” Wade said. “These are USU students putting on an annual event to help another student.”
