Saint Patrick's Day Revealed at USU Museum of Anthropology

Visitors can delve into the history of St. Patrick’s Day at Utah State University’s Museum of Anthropology during the next Saturdays at the Museum activity. Everyone can get a jump on the holiday Saturday, March 10, during the museum’s 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours.

(The museum celebrates the holiday a week early since it will be closed for USU’s Spring Break March 17.)

Museum guests can learn where the unique holiday started and why people traditionally wear green. They can enjoy a green cream soda and make leprechaun treasure boxes during the day’s activities. There will be a scavenger hunt with a “pot of gold” at the end of the rainbow.

Dancing demonstrations are presented at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and presentations about the history of St. Patrick’s Day are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m.

Event organizers invite everyone to the celebration, especially families.

“St. Patrick’s Day is such an interesting holiday because many people celebrate it but they don’t think about where it comes from,” said Amanda Arthur, a museum assistant. “This is a great opportunity to enjoy the holiday and learn about the history behind it too.”

Community members and USU students alike can visit the museum during its operating hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Funding for the Saturday events is provided by a grant from the United States Institute of Museum and Library Services. More information about the IMLS is available online.

The USU Museum of Anthropology is on the USU campus in the south turret of the historic Old Main building, Room 252. Admission is free. For Saturday activities, free parking is available in the adjacent lot, south of the building.
