Retirement Dinner Honors Forty-Eight

Methuselah couldn’t hold a candle to the combined years of service by this year’s Utah State University retirees — no, he would need another 173 years to match that total.

Forty-eight individuals were honored during a retirement dinner April 28. Those 48 make up the retirement class of 2005-06 and, calculator at hand, their combined service totals 1,143 years. And while Methuselah has become a synonym for longevity, USU’s retirees combined efforts are also long-lived and contribute to the ongoing success of the university. One retiree, Betty Jane Hansen, was recognized for 40 years of service.

 

Each year USU’s retirees are honored in an event that brings people together from across campus. The combined event is intentional — it attests that the university runs on the teamwork of all its people.

 

“You in this room have given greatly,” the retirees were told. “And for that, thousands of Aggie graduates, and Utah State University itself, will be forever in your debt.”

 

President Albrecht spoke briefly to the group, offering congratulations and best wishes.

 

A video presentation was shown, highlighting the contributions of the year’s retirees. A framed citation, written by co-workers, colleagues, directors or department heads, was presented to those retiring, along with a watch.
