Restoring the Rio Grande
USU Professor Jack Schmidt says one of the most difficult environmental challenges facing the U.S. is how to manage its rivers. Schmidt is an expert on the Rio Grande, once a wide, sandy river that now resembles an irrigation ditch. Schmidt says choices made decades ago created the situation and that intentional efforts must be made to reverse the damage.
